Legendary designer Alexander McQueen founded his namesake luxury house in 1992, merging the craftsmanship of Savile Row tailoring with a darkly provocative sense of theatre to earn a reputation as the British fashion industry’s de facto enfant terrible. Launched in 2005, the house’s contemporary unisex label McQ adapts McQueen’s polished, punk-inflected aesthetic into a uniform for today’s youth. The accoutrements of bygone subcultural movements, from leather biker jackets and oversized knitwear to high-top sneakers and MA-1 bomber jackets, are fitted with avant-garde silhouettes, while reconstructed graphic t-shirts, distressed denim jeans, badge-embellished denim jackets, and patchwork logo t-shirts recall the irreverent DIY ethos of myriad youth countercultures. Signature McQueen iconography, such as razorblades, skulls, and dark florals, hang alongside new icons, including swallows, the ‘Glyph’ logo, and ‘Bunny’ graphics to elevate the line’s range of urban streetwear staples including neoprene sweatshirts, zip-up hoodies, luxe lounge pants, slip-on skater sneakers, and leather combat boots.
