Originally conceived as an annual publication, Emily Oberg's Sporty & Rich label has steadily shifted modes from print to garment design. Launched in 2015, the New York-based brand—though rooted in present-day efficacy—situates itself in a romanticized, constructed yesteryear conjured by Oberg’s era-spanning mood boards. Drawing inspiration from vintage sportswear, Oberg’s menswear weaves a wistful nostalgia into modern day staples. Oversized crewnecks, retro sweat shorts, and slouchy T-shirts rendered in faded, pastel hues conjure images of ‘90s era country clubs and vintage track-and-field attire. The retro aesthetic is furthered still through collegiate-style graphics and logos scrawled in old-school script. Rooted in a classic, minimalist aesthetic, Sporty & Rich brings sportswear styles back to the basics.
