With a style profile that’s one part nostalgia and one part meticulous craft, West London native Molly Goddard channels the dreamy energy of youth in her effervescent tulle creations. The young designer studied Fashion Knit at Central St Martins before striking out on her own, presenting her playfully subversive Spring 2015 collection to great accolade. Since then, her off-kilter take on the frilly trappings of awkward adolescence has continued to strike a fresh chord in a market saturated with pared-back minimalism. However, inherent to Goddard’s translucent confections is the suggestion that they might be artfully layered -- providing visual relief to a look grounded in grown-up wearability, rather than standing alone in their ruffled neon glory. Candy-colored embroidered knits and form-fitting striped cardigans form the perfect counterpoint to voluminous dresses, outsized skirts, and ruched tops that eschew the contours of the female form in favour of uninhibitedly exaggerated silhouettes.
