Australian designer Matthew Adams Dolan studied fashion and textile design at Parsons School of Design in New York City before launching his debut collection for Spring/Summer 2016. Inspired by its familiarity, universality, and versatility, the designer’s namesake label specializes above all in denim. Drawing on the fabric’s historical significance within American culture, from its roots in mid-century workwear to its ubiquity in 1990s pop culture, Dolan’s denim takes a multitude of forms. Oversized silhouettes and exaggerated tailoring lend themselves to androgynous styling, while heavily distressed, shredded, and reconstructed pieces add textural interest. Easy jersey t-shirts and lounge pants with unexpected accents round out the brand’s denim-driven collections.
