When We11done, the Seoul-based brand founded by Dami Kwon and Jessica Jung, unveiled its Spring/Summer 2022 collection, the models walked a grassy landscape to “Come Down to Us”, a sprawling electronic track from cult British artist Burial. Released in 2013, the song is 13 minutes long and moves through distinct passages, like an experimental symphony dotted with aching vocal samples and the sound of rain. Its ambitious and unorthodox structure enables powerful emotional changes, from fearfully adrift and alone to hopeful and at peace. The track concludes with an excerpt from filmmaker Lana Wachowski reflecting on her transition and the will to envision “other worlds, previously unimaginable.”

We11done’s SS22 collection is driven by various desires: to take up space through oversized silhouettes, to indulge in pleasure and power in a sequined dress and a bejeweled leather collar, to boldly progress from a complicated past into an uncertain future with optimism instead of anxiety. Shot by Berlin-based photographer Rob Kulisek, this editorial figuratively imagines that journey into the unknown. The models don sunglasses and move into a bright future even as the detritus of the current moment swirls around them. “Come Down to Us” begins in inky darkness and tape hiss—someone says “Excuse me, I’m lost” in a broken tone—but in its final minutes the song is shimmering, almost pop. The drums are big and the processed vocals exclaim wordlessly. Pure sound and light.
