Founded by Consuelo Castiglioni in 1994, luxury label Marni carved a space in the fashion landscape by imbuing modern classics with a quirky bohemian inflection, characterized by retro color stories and free-spirited play with luxurious fabrics and furs. Central Saint-Martins alumni and creative director Francesco Risso sees the label's codes invigorated with a spirit of irreverence and anti-conformity. Culling inspiration from sources as varied as the early 20th century Dada art movement, childhood memories, and the Japanese deconstructionists, Risso extends the Italian womenswear label’s sartorial vocabulary. Merging the radiant colors and offbeat quality of Castiglioni-era Marni with elements of the art world and a complete rejection of industry conventions, the label continues to evolve while remaining firmly entrenched in its roots. Modern-day staples including Marni’s iconic Trunk and Pannier leather handbags capture the label’s distinctive quirkiness. Playful prints and textbook colorblocking adorn women’s staples such a turtlenecks, pencil skirts, graphic t-shirts, relaxed trousers, and wool coats.
