Merging elements of deconstructivism, minimalism, and utilitarianism through an unabashedly feminine point-of-view, Charlotte Knowles’ womenswear line disrupts the predominantly male-centric perception of female sexuality. Working with her partner, Alexandre Arsenault, the London-based designer started her eponymous women’s label shortly after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2017 and is already gaining traction in the fashion industry. Her primary focus is exploring the ways in which the woman’s body can be revealed. By reinterpreting feminine sensuality in a very considered manner, Knowles is asking women to find strength within themselves. Sculpted bras and corsets subvert conventional codes of dress when styled with semi-sheer negligees, creating a uniquely sensitive silhouette. Provocative but not vulgar, playful patterns adorn shapely vented tops and skirts as well as sleek V-neck dresses. Charlotte Knowles expertly pushes the fashion envelope to design beautiful pieces that effectively traverse the boundaries between tradition and the avant-garde.
