Workaday Handmade
Brooklyn-based ceramicist Forrest Lewinger updates traditional pottery with modern silhouettes for his home decor label Workaday Handmade. With works exhibited at MOCA LA and the Whitney Museum of American Art, Lewinger brings a conceptual perspective to the label’s whimsical, simple designs. The artist is inspired by the tactility of clay and elements of the urban environment, blending the boundaries between the medium and its finished result. Portly planters and rounded coffee mugs are finished with lustrous glazes and subtle speckled textures. Hand-painted abstract patterns dance around contours while exaggerated handles evoke a sense of weight and form. Charismatically expressive, Workaday Handmade’s creations settle into their surroundings while redefining the parameters of functionality.
