Inside The Crow’s Premiere Rave

Bill Skarsgard, FKA twigs, Rupert Sanders, and the coolest New Yorkers proved goth style is back at the movie’s afterparty.

On Tuesday night, a star-studded flock of New York’s goth-chic crowd, influencers, and social elite walked the black feather-strewn floor of the Starrett-Lehigh building, in Chelsea, to celebrate the world premiere of The Crow—in theaters everywhere on August 23. Alongside TikTok and Lionsgate, SSENSE hosted the official after party for the bloody romance, with stars Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs in attendance.

Guests arrived dressed all in black, of course, as DJ Bobby Beethoven played a moody set of remixes from Kelela, Cash Cobain, and Rihanna, among others. Doss and Alice Glass each took to the decks over the course of the night, steadily upping the BPMs.

“As a longtime admirer of twigs, I felt like the movie was almost a longer version of her music videos,” influencer Tyler Omeed Mazaheri said. “It was beautifully shot.”

Model Jazelle Zanaughtti described her vertigo-inducing trip to the upper tiers of the Village East Cinema for the screening; the almost queasy sensation matched the intensity of the movie’s operatic action sequences. But for her the real highlight was twigs. “I’d never seen her in a movie before, and I was telling her that it’s so obvious that she’s an actress,” Zanaughtti said. “She throws herself into whatever she does with such passion.”

A number of legendary musicians have made the jump from the recording studio to the Hollywood lot, from Elvis to Prince to Eminem, but the results are far from guaranteed. twigs, however, has the kind of magnetic presence and striking features that make perfect sense on the big screen. The swarms of camera phones raised upon her arrival at the after party were evidence of her command of the gaze. For proof, just head to theaters to see Rupert Sanders’s rendition of The Crow.
