Commission CLOTHING

The design duo behind New York–based label Commission is all about getting the job done. Dylan Cao and Jin Kay wanted to create something that honored their childhood memories, shared histories, and parents. Commission debuted a directional womenswear collection in 2018, drawing inspiration from the designers’ East Asian heritage and their mothers’ ‘80s and ‘90s workplace outfits. The label’s foray into menswear, conceived at SSENSE’s request, pulls on the slick ‘70s dad style, reinterpreting business-casual attire with tailored yet comfortable everyday wear. Perfectly cut blazers and trousers and pristine knits lay the foundation for the Commission man’s wardrobe, while subtly louche shirting and deep plunging necklines inject a dash of sex appeal and playfulness. Commission weaves nostalgia into modern dress codes for a menswear collection that is forward-thinking, timeless, and fun.
