Los Angeles ready-to-wear label Rhude’s womenswear collection sees founder and creative director Rhuigi Villaseñor building on the brand’s established aesthetic codes that characterize his menswear. Inspired by his Filipino upbringing in LA and exploring themes of social behavior and consumerism, Villaseñor’s collections reflect an ever-morphing personal narrative from misplaced outsider to accomplished creative. Showcasing the designer’s understanding of garment construction (a skill developed from watching his tailor mother work), renditions of quintessential streetwear staples gain a refreshingly more tailored look through tweaked silhouettes and cuts that have been perfected specifically for women. Slathered in cerebral iconography, core hoodies, paneled T-shirts, and half-zip sweatshirts convey a bold sense of expression, while boxy jackets, utilitarian cargo trousers, and complementing accessories extend the label’s sartorial output.
