Paris-born designer Jean Paul Gaultier has long been regarded as fashion’s enfant terrible, a reputation he carried until stepping down from his namesake label in 2020. A self-taught ingénue who began working under fellow experimentalist Pierre Cardin at just 18, Gaultier has consistently defied gender and genre.
