Born in Iraqi Kurdistan and raised in Sweden, brother-and-sister duo Dilan and Lezan Lurr are the designers behind the Belgium-based label Namacheko. Navigating the complex dualities of diasporic identity and culture through clothing, the two self-taught patternmakers bring elements of Kurdish heritage into the high-end fashion vernacular of Western Europe, crafting compellingly personal pieces by turns minimal and subtly complex. Evoking a profoundly real sense of displacement and ‘searching’, the pair brings lived geopolitical consequences to the discourse of the designer world. In the realm of form, the label’s pieces strike through the hard edge of their subtext, inhabiting an of-the-moment blend of refinement and rawness. Juxtaposing Eastern and Western cultures and the conventional and the unconventional, geometric colorblocked designs, crisp shirting, confident avant-garde tailoring choices, and perfectly cut trousers combine for a subtle but strong look.
