Chancing upon vintage shoe molds and long-forgotten 1950s-era machinery while visiting an old Slovakian shoe factory, Spalwart co-founders Christoffer Battin and Fredrik Johansson set out to establish their own footwear brand in 2010. Committed to carrying on the rich heritage and history of shoemaking, the pair resurrect these original molds and implement traditional techniques in their range of casual high- and low-tops and athletic sneakers. The Swedish label’s most prevalent model, a track-inspired women’s running shoe dubbed the Marathon Trail, features premium Italian suede and airbag textile uppers, calfskin lined interiors, and individually vulcanized treaded rubber soles. With production principles founded on authentic craftsmanship and ongoing product development, Spalwart continues to manufacture their goods in original factories across Europe. For Fall/Winter 2016, the brand revisits a recurring collaboration with Commes Des Garçons.
