Algerian-born French designer Yves Saint Laurent founded his eponymous couture house in 1961, pioneering luxury ready-to-wear in his 1966 "Rive Gauche" collection and introducing items like the “le smoking” tuxedo, safari jacket, and sheer blouses to womens’ everyday wardrobes. He complemented an ethos of youth and freedom with colorful and exotically inspired couture collections that created one of the 20th century’s most definitive legacies of modern femininity. Saint Laurent Paris, under the creative direction of Hedi Slimane since 2012, continues the house’s fusion of refinement and rebellion. Inspired by the youth subcultures of garage, grunge, and psych rock in his home base of Los Angeles, Slimane elevates staples of rock style to an unprecedented standard of luxury: leather motorcycle jackets, babydoll dresses, embellished cashmere cardigans and scarves, tailored jackets, and the house’s signature Wyatt boots, Sac du Jour totes, Paris pumps, and Ligne Y accessories.
