Roberi & Fraud’s retro-futurist sunglasses have quickly emerged as vital of-the-moment women’s accessories, making a strong case for the bygone decade’s return to aesthetic relevancy. The exceptionally young label, founded in 2017, is the brainchild of self-taught New York/Dubai-based designers Ali Mehrdad and Stefan Foster. Eschewing all industry wisdom, the pair decided to launch their label at a Paris Fashion Week party just months after coming up with an initial concept. Yet this spontaneity was well-rewarded, with key influencers flocking to the brand and transforming it into an Instagram-trending phenomenon literally overnight. Calling to mind the hard-edged, Matrix-referencing cyberpunk looks and 50s via 90s Clueless glamor in equal measure, pieces range from barely-there thin oval frames to opulent cat-eye acetates. Minimally designed, they compliment casual and formal ensembles with equal ease, offering the option of fearless attitude with an iconic appeal.
