Blood Orange 'High Street

"Pain Breeds Creativity"

Stylist’s Picks from Max Pearmain

Originally from Norwich, Max Pearmain studied sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and is currently the editor of the menswear fashion biannual Arena Homme Plus. After having cut his teeth at i-D and Pop, Max was appointed at Arena Homme Plus at 27, and has since worked as a freelance stylist for titles such as 032c, Double, and the Wall Street Journal and collaborates frequently with photographers David Sims and Tyrone Lebon.

What was your approach to styling Dev Hynes and Skepta in “High Street”?

My approach to styling both these artists was to respect their own style, as they both always look great, whilst making sure there was good synergy between them in terms of the tone and silhouette of their looks. The video and song feel very London-centric to me, and I wanted to reflect that in the quiet confidence of their outfits.

What’s your favorite music video?

My favorite music video (at the moment) is The Beastie Boys’ “Gratitude.”
