Although Natasha Kmeto grew up in Sacramento and spent her formative years touring in L.A., it’s clear that Portland, Oregon – the city she’s called home for almost eight years – has had more of an effect on her music than the California sunshine. Growing up, music was Natasha’s first love, having fronted a funk-rock band and sung in a choral group before moving to Portland to pursue her solo career and sign to independent label Dropping Gems. Her first EP 9 was a decidedly left-field release, balancing elements of hip hop, R&B, and electronica that continue to influence her work today – 2013’s Crisis features her own crisp vocals over precise production, always infused with her signature sultry attitude.
