Combining boisterous bass, grime, future-garage and 2-step, Last Japan's music is a melting pot of London-style sounds. Not that we're complaining. In fact, that's exactly why we love him. The prodigy of UK garage icon Marco Del Horno, Last Japan first appeared on our radar when he debuted on the infamous Rinse FM radio show a couple years ago; the 23-year-old has since become an artist in his own right. A South London native, Last Japan (real name Marco Giuliani) calls himself a "producer first, DJ second," having spent his formative years playing a variety of instruments and studying music production in school. His latest effort, a five-track EP released under Space + Time Records called Darsk, became an instant 4/4 classic.
He may be a producer first, but we love Last Japan's mixing skills; his mix opens with FERAL's "Rollercoaster" and an instrumental version of Zomby's "Things All Fall Apart," alongside tracks from Jamie xx, Evian Christ, Nguzunguzu, and A$AP Rocky.
