The oldest fashion house still in operation, Lanvin was founded in 1889 by 22-year-old milliner Jeanne Lanvin. Her eye for luxury, tailoring, and brocade soon turned the name into a premier luxury house. Once she unveiled her menswear line, Jeanne Lanvin became the first couturier to dress entire families. Lanvin saw her designs not as occurring in a vacuum but as encompassing—and contributing to—a complete aesthetic, including perfumes, interior design, and sportswear. In 2001 Alber Elbaz was named artistic director of the house. Elbaz’s technical genius and innate sense style have established a new paradigm of refinement in contemporary menswear—as seen in the house’s signature sharp cigarette trousers. Combined with the cult-favorite sportswear of men's designer Lucas Ossendrijver, Lanvin presents a vision of unparalleled luxury and elegance that makes it a must-have among fashion insiders.
