A creative polymath, San Francisco-born designer, DJ, and artist Heron Preston studied at Parsons School of Design in New York before co-founding art direction and streetwear collective Been Trill alongside Off-White’s Virgil Abloh and 1017 ALYX 9SM’s Matthew Williams. With the launch of his ‘NASCAR’ t-shirt, which reinterpreted iconic trademarks into an over-branded, bootleg-style visual feast, Preston questioned the value and meaning of ‘authenticity’. However, an ocean swim-turned-eye-opening experience in the Mediterranean showed Preston the extent to which the earth is being damaged by pollution, much of which is produced by the fashion industry. This epiphany has driven his subsequent efforts in fusing the creation of womenswear with an awareness of global environmental issues, which include a sustainable streetwear collection produced in collaboration with New York’s Department of Sanitation. Preston’s eponymous label, launched in 2016, propels his unique worldview with a reference-rich collection steeped in internet, youth, and counterfeit culture.
