Montreal-native Marie-Ève Lecavalier moved to Switzerland to study at HEAD Genève, snatching the Festival d’Hyères’ Chloé prize and a special mention for her Masters collection before officially founding her namesake womenswear label, Lecavalier. Growing up in the suburbs, the designer found respite from teenage ennui within her own imagination. Much of Lecavalier’s design process is influenced by these acts of personal storytelling—she describes her offering of women’s separates as the clothes she would ‘dream of wearing.’ The label’s offering of women’s shirts, shirt dresses, and pullovers blur the boundaries between this fantasy world and reality. Lecavalier’s signature abstract patterns distort line and shape, drawing upon the kaleidoscopic visuals of 1970’s psychedelia and all their mind-altering implications. A selection of tailored outerwear, elevated denim options, and an array of bags and accessories round out the designer’s collection of graphic garments with a sense of arty elegance.
