Having earned undergraduate and MFA degrees in fashion design at Central Saint Martins and Parsons respectively, Japanese designer Kozaburo Akasaka’s understanding of his craft is second to none. The caliber of his professional experience, which includes time spent working for the likes of Thom Browne, echoes that of his scholastic credentials. Kozaburo’s individualistic design approach is informed by the subcultures he encountered growing up in 90’s Tokyo, and his namesake label reveals the polished juxtaposition of streetwear styling and high-fashion flair that is his unmistakeable sartorial stamp. With classic tailoring as his base, the designer composes a wealth of variations on a theme, displaying technical mastery while allowing diverse influences to emerge. Vintage-inspired Japanese graphics and lush fabrics evoke a contemporary spirit when applied to tailored streetwear and outerwear, while unexpected design details like extended vents, bold hardware, and asymmetric styling enliven time-honored menswear essentials.
