In 2014, one year after graduating from London’s College of Arts, Liam Hodges established his namesake brand, first as part of Fashion East and Topman's MAN initiative then subsequently striking out on his own. Interested in a perception of masculinity that is expressive and layered, the British-born designer intuitively pulls from his own core to deliver an offering that breathes fresh air into the current men's fashion landscape. With riffs on classic workwear and UK streetwear, reverberations of post-punk, hip hop, and skate subcultures are felt through staples rendered in signature artful patchworked constructions and loud colors. Aiming a spotlight on Hodge's patternmaking technique and eye for detail, coordinated tracksuits, work jackets, slouchy trousers, and button-down shirts, pieced together in asymmetrically-panelled constructions, are further detailed with contrasting piping and quilted overlays. Bold graphics and conspicuous slogans subvert classic tees and hoodies, while long sleeved rugby polos featuring alternating bengal and awning stripes lend a sporty collegiate feel. Contrasting textiles, clashing patterns, and tie-dye treatments, which have come to distinguish the label’s aesthetic, exemplify a non-conformist approach to ready-to-wear.
