Yoann Lemoine, the French-Polish musician known by his stage name Woodkid, releases the video for his latest single, I Love You, the first preview from his forthcoming album, The Golden Age, which is due out in March 2013. Directed by Lemoine and styled by Belgian designer Kris Van Assche with looks from his own collections, the video stars model Matvey Lykov as the protagonist. It opens with Lykov as a fashion-forward Russian priest, speaking to his flock: “Today, I'll tell you the story about a man who drowned in the cold waters of the ocean after losing the one he loved. This is the story about a man who died twice.” At least, we think that's what he said. We got the Russian translation from the Internet.
I Love You isn’t Woodkid’s first foray into filmmaking; in fact, the indie musician is a noted music video director, having worked with the likes of pop sensation/Mulberry muse Lana Del Rey, folk legend Richie Havens, and model Agyness Deyn – star of the video for his 2011 single, Iron – in the past. Van Assche and Woodkid are former collaborators as well: Van Assche’s Fall 13 collection for Dior Homme was inspired by Woodkid’s Iron, and the track was later used to soundtrack the runway show.
