Raf Simons presents an abstract short film for his Spring/Summer 13 collection, serving as both a voyeuristic lookbook and art piece for the upcoming collection. Shot by acclaimed photographer and video artist Pierre Debusschere - who had previously lensed Simons' Run Fall Run film for Fall 12 - the six minute video captures the collection in a style that takes loose cues from nature documentaries. A still camera focuses on its subjects and captures them in hypnotic slow motion as they sit unaware and gaze longingly, interrupted with the occasional sip of Coca-Cola and puff of a cigarette.
Styled by Robbie Spencer, the collection is beautifully presented with a rich palette of pinks, oranges and floral contrasts across a range of well-tailored separates worn by a handful of grungy models with long limp hair and solemn expressions. That mood is accented further by the lo-fi spoken-word overlay of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain - a frank recording of him discussing his aspirations - that heightens the voyeuristic feel of the clip and adds a linear narrative to the video which visually has with no obvious beginning, middle, or end.
Raf Simons Spring/Summer 13 collection will be available soon at SSENSE.
