In news that is sure to fulfill more than a few fantasies, Kerry Taylor Auctions is placing ten of Diana, Princess of Wales’ iconic dresses for auction on March 19th. Aside from international recognition for her charity work, Diana was a style icon; the most photographed Princess of the 20th century.
The selection features Diana’s most memorable looks, including the midnight blue velvet Victor Edelstein gown worn by the princess when she famously danced with actor John Travolta in 1985, a number of velvet and beaded ball gowns from Catherine Walker, and cocktail dresses from Zanda Rhodes and Bruce Oldfield. A Victor Edelstein bottle-green velvet evening gown worn by Diana in 1985 eerily features a small, faint hand-print that is thought to have been left by one of her sons.
The collection is currently owned by Maureen Rorech Dunkel who acquired it at a New York charity sale arranged by the Princess herself in June 1997, only months before her untimely death in Paris. Since, Rorech Dunkel has exhibited the selection to raise money for charity, until finally deciding to sell the pieces at the Kerry Taylor Auctions.
