Chinese design firm, MAD Architects has announced plans to construct a village of avant-garde apartment complexes inspired by the rugged landscape that would surround them, in the eastern Chinese Huangshan Mountain region. The apartment complexes will be built in modern materials – glass and concrete – yet the firm hopes that the community will reflect an organic expansion of the existing landscape through the buildings’ natural shapes and soft edges, influenced by the mystery and poetry of the legendary mountains that are a constant source of inspiration to artists, painters and designers alike. The apartments will overlook the scenic Taiping Lake, with their cascading multi-levels mirroring the lake’s slow waves; the community will house a hotel, facilities and 700 apartments in total, and is set to be complete in 2014.
