Icelandic producer Logi Pedro Stefansson got his start under the Pedro Pilatus moniker in 2012, after his self-released mixes and short productions garnered attention from London-based dub artists, Skream and Benga. No stranger to the music industry, Stefansson is best known for his work as the bass player for Icelandic alternative band, Retro Stefson, but his solo project is rooted in house, pulling in elements of garage, dub and bass music. Now signed to London-based independent label, Cool Kid Music, Pilatus released his first EP - a club-oriented mix of RnB, UK bass and deep house – Calia, late last year.
Pedro Pilatus’ mix for SSENSE is a distillation of his garage-house sound, opening with a track from UK house producer Julio Bashmore, followed by a Masters at Work remix of Icelandic singer Bjork’s 90s hit, Violently Happy. Classic and deep house offerings from Crosstown Rebels-signed Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones and Machinedrum are contrasted by slower dub-based sounds, including two different remixes of Radiohead’s Bloom, from Jamie XX and Objekt. Pilatus’ own productions, The Go Gettin’ – released under Cool Kid Music this year – and an unreleased demo, Kosha Powda, find their way into the mix as well.
