Octo Octa

We got in touch with Brooklyn's Michael Bouldry-Morrison, who's been producing as Octo Octa since 2011, just as he finished touring with the Redbull Music Academy alongside industry leaders like Masters at Work, Francois K, Flying Lotus, DJ Slow, and Four Tet. With four standout releases under Los Angeles independent label 100% Silk - an SSENSE favorite - Octo Octa's dancefloor-focused music translates his love for inventive vintage house sounds. His latest effort is an eight-track EP also released under 100% Silk in May 2013 that features languid melodies and abstract samples.

Constructed entirely from retro disco records, Octo Octa's vinyl-only mix for SSENSE begins with "Keep on Dancin'," a 1978 hit from American disco group Gary's Gang, followed by offerings from The Michael Zagar Band, Gino Soccio, Gregg Diamond, Anita Ward, and Sylvester.
