Constructing dream-like landscapes in their forty-five minute mix, downtempo duo Keep Shelly in Athens articulate their signature impressionistic sound, beginning with a ghostly chillwave offering from The Host’s Rainy Sequences/Phosphene Patterns that carefully weaves into Lindsay Lowend and Jonah Baseball’s Should Be, a remix of Amy Winehouse’s Stronger Than Me. The haunting overtones are further amplified with quixotic vocals from the likes of Radiohead, Toro Y Moi and Ella Fitzgerald – complementing the mix’s pulsating beats and atmospheric sounds. The mix ends with the duo’s own cover of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Just Like Honey, reworked as part of an indie music podcast campaign for Breast Cancer Care, where the original track was remixed by eleven different artists including We Are Enfant Terrible and Laki Mera.
Named one of HypeMachine’s most blogged-about artists this year, Keep Shelly in Athens is made up of Greek vocalist Sarah P and her production partner RPR, the duo are renowned for their ambient take on electronica and dream-like house, producing a sound that is at once dark and lighthearted. Preferring to remain somewhat anonymous, the duo’s first EP, In Love With Dusk, was released under the Gorilla vs. Bear-run label, Forest Family Records in 2010, with their latest remix of Tycho’s Dive – also featured in their mix for SSENSE – earning critical acclaim upon its release earlier this year.
