Radical conceptual designer Martin Margiela has not given an interview or made a public appearance since founding his namesake couture house in 1988. Yet his intellectual collections have nevertheless come to symbolize a rarefied brand of avant-garde, international cool. His distressed fabrics and deconstructed statement silhouettes continue to push the boundaries while spawning legions of imitators.
