About JEAN'S PAUL GAULTIER ▼
Having never received any formal training, Jean Paul Gaultier began his career by sending his design sketches to famous couture stylists. He soon caught the attention of Pierre Cardin, who hired him as an assistant in 1970. Fast forward to the 1980's, where Gaultier's began making waves with his signature style. Unusual and playful, inspired by streetwear and popular culture, Gaultier became known as the "enfant terrible" of French fashion. Famous for Madonna's infamous cone bra and sculpted costumes in her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour; for using unconventional models in his shows, such as heavily tattooed and pierced older men and full-figured women; and for playing with traditional gender roles, Gaultier has earned both serious criticism and serious popularity for his work. Jean's Paul Gaultier consists mainly of denim and more simply styled garments with a heavy street influence.
