Mugler

Architectural drama

Looking back to the archives of their label’s namesake, creative director Nicola Formichetti and his womenswear designer Sébastien Peigné, draw inspiration from archetypal Thierry Mugler designs for Fall 12. Presenting structural yet minimalist looks in a monochrome palette, the collection is typically body-conscious and typical Formichetti; emphasis is placed on drama, with architectural shoulders that recall Mugler’s late 70’s power suits, complimented by geometric cut outs and structural details that exaggerate the body.

The collection’s aggressive tailoring is keenly balanced by a striking yet feminine zebra motif that dominates the collection across sculpted blazers and sheer blouses, reappearing as a harder graphic in sheer panels abstracted across the sleeves and back of a classic sweater. Formichetti’s love of drama extends to the inclusion of a solitary bright orange hue – seen in a knitted miniskirt and stretch leather pants - that injects a shot of color, boldy clashing with the otherwise stark vision.
