Summing Up Helmut Lang's Spring Collection

  • Fashion is already a visual medium, but if there's one time the image machine kicks into overdrive, it's during Fashion Week.

When we sent our photographer backstage at the Dia:Chelsea gallery in New York to record Helmut Lang’s Spring 14 runway presentation, we wondered: could stats supplement snapshots? We asked the label’s creative directors, husband and wife team Nicole and Michael Colovos, to share all the hard data of their Fashion Week — everything from the number of seats in the front row to the yards of fabric they used. One thing they didn’t keep track of? The number of times their hairstylist described something as “beyond.” They’re only telling us it was too many. We expected a figure in that range when we asked the duo how many coffees they drank on the day of the show, but once again the numbers say it all: two double espressos each.
